A leading servant is different than a servant leader:
- A "leading servant" is a servant of Christ who helps lead others to Christ by serving them - ministering to their needs - and then leading them further by example in becoming servants of Christ as well.
- A "servant leader" is a leader who "serves the needs of others" in achieving a goal by providing support for higher performance and satisfaction.
The Association of Leading Servants exists and functions because:
We Christians sustain a loss when we neglect the privilege of associating together to strengthen and encourage one another in the service of God. The truths of His word lose their vividness and importance in our minds. Our hearts cease to be enlightened and aroused by their sanctifying influence, and we decline in spirituality.
In our association as leading servants, we have sincere concern for one another. A Christian who shuts himself up to himself is not filling the position that God designed him to fill. The proper cultivation of our social nature will bring us into sympathy with each other and will motivate us to serve the greater needs of our church and our community. Our response to these continually discovered opportunities will be for us a means of spiritual development and strength.

By associating together, speaking with each other of the love of God and of the precious truths of redemption, and collaborating with each other in our efforts to seek and to save the lost, our hearts will be refreshed and we will be better equipped to help refresh one another.
Every day, we want to learn more about our heavenly Father and gain a fresh experience of His grace. We desire to share His love; and as we do this, our own hearts will be warmed and encouraged. As we think and talk more of Jesus, and less of self, we will experience far more of His presence in our lives. We will walk more closely with Him, and we will attract others - more and more - into the family of God.
